Are baby hiccups normal?

are baby hiccups normal

Your precious baby has hiccups. You wonder if this is normal, should I worry? Hiccups are mostly caused by the irritation to the diaphragm, this is the muscle located at the base of the lungs. When this muscle starts to spasm or cramp, this causes the vocal cords to clamp shut, creating a sound known as hic!!

What do you know about hiccups in newborns?

  • If babies over feed or gulp air during feeding that can cause the stomach to expand and rub against the diaphragm causing hiccups.
  • Feed your baby in a more upright position.
  • Prop your baby head in more of an upright position. Propping head up on a pillow so they are not lying flat may help take less air at mealtime
  • Burp the baby
  • Use a pacifier
  • Use gripe water (Gripe water is an over-the-counter liquid supplement of sodium bicarbonate and herbs (like fennel, ginger, chamomile, dill, lemon balm or peppermint, depending on the formula).
  • If coughing, spitting up, irritable and crying, arching the back especially during or after feeding, seek medical help or call your pediatrician

Our young adults need to develop healthy habits early. What you do now will matter very much when you are older.

Below can you pick out the correct answers?

  • If your partner wants to be intimate  with you,  they are the one responsible for providing protection
  • To ensure safety from sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and pregnancy women should make sure they have the necessary supplies on hand always
  • Abstinence is the best way to prevent STDs and pregnancy
  • You should be receiving screening for STD’s and cancer screening from an obstetrician/gynecologist, family medicine physician or other professional with enough training to properly perform examination – and to treat what they may find.
  • Withdrawal also known as “pulling out” method is safe and effective for not getting pregnant or contracting an STD

Taking care of yourself and your body is so important. Screening for STD’s may/should include HIV, herpes, syphilis, Hepatitis B and C, gonorrhea/chlamydia and HPV as needed.

Ligament Stretch a sudden and quick jabbing type sensation

Pregnant ligament stretch

You are in your second trimester. You are experiencing sharp type pain or a jabbing type of pain In your lower abdomen and the groin area ( where your legs attach to your pelvic ). As your baby begins to grow in your uterus, these round ligaments stretch. This will cause the ligaments to tighten, something like a rubber band they snap when they are pulled. This will cause you to have a sudden and quick jabbing type sensation. You inform your provider or mid wife and they tell you, you are having round ligaments pains. Do you know what can actually trigger these pains? From below pick the one that is incorrect!

1-Exercises

2- Coughing

3- Laughing

4- Rolling over or movement in bed

5- Standing up too quickly

6- Sitting too long in one position

Can you change your babies position from ROP (Right Occiput Posterior)?

Posted on
Right Occiput Posterior

In Right Occiput Posterior (ROP), baby is head down and the back is to the side- the mother’s right side. This position can be deceptively reassuring. ROP is the most common of the four posterior positions. Right Occiput Posterior – Baby’s back favors mother’s right side and the back of baby’s head is towards mother’s posterior. The baby would end up delivering facing the ceiling which gives you the challenge of delivering the baby with largest diameter of the head. Very often women take over 3 hours to drop the head down enough to deliver, especially the first time mothers. How can you change the baby position from ROP?

  • Acupuncture
  • Use of a Peanut Ball
  • You can not change an infant position
  • Lying on your side with your leg elevated on pillows between your legs
