You are in active labor and do not want an epidural but request pain management.  IV medication is administered and you deliver in two hours. Which statement is accurate?

  • Intravenous pain medication crosses the placental barrier and your baby will go to the nursery for approximately 4 hours to monitor the vital signs and the effects of medication.
  • The newborn will be allowed to remain with you since IV medication has no effect to the baby.
  • The staff will review the observation of the newborn with you and the baby can remain with you
  • If your significant other is present the infant can remain with you in the room.
