Mothers Taking Childbirth Classes More Likely To Have Normal Deliveries

A Study by ACOG – American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists – suggest that first-time mothers are more likely to have a normal delivery if they take a childbirth class.

Reuters (1/24, Chander) reported, “First-time mothers who take childbirth classes are more likely to have normal deliveries without interventions, a small study suggests.” The study, published in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics, “compared more than 300 women who gave birth to a first child at an Israeli medical center,” and “researchers found that those who took a series of classes on the experience of childbirth, pain management and postpartum issues were more likely to have normal vaginal deliveries and less likely to have vacuum extraction used during their delivery.”

Lactation Consultation Session

$60 per couple

Presented by Nurse Jackie!

Nurse Jackie Says, “Now babies now come with instructions!” Learn the tips, tricks and techniques on how to keep your baby healthy – a must for any new mother!

Session Includes:

  • Session length is 1-2 Hours depending on newborn and mothers ability to breast feed successfully.
  • Practice in our beautiful birthing rooms in a quiet, clean home like, private setting.
  • Don’t practice on your baby! We have anatomically correct dolls with mouth open to assist you in practicing breast, spoon and syringe feeding. Then you can apply the skills with your newborn baby.
  • We assist you with newborns latching on, clogged breast milk ducks, sore nipples or referrals if needed.
  • Mothers can bring their baby to our facility so I can assess your breasts, breast feeding technique, breastfeeding positions, breast care and assessing the proper feeding of the newborn through pees and poos to see if their feeding habits need to be modified.
  • All newborns must be under pediatric care to come to the class.
  • Nursing gowns provided.
  • Follow up visits may be scheduled if needed or more practice is required.

Clogged Milk Ducts

Plugged, blocked or clogged milk ducts are hard, tender lumps that form in the narrow milk ducts of the breast. Blocked milk ducts prevent the flow of your breast milk. Plugged milk ducts are a common breastfeeding problem causing swelling, redness, and pain in your breast.What causes clogged ducts?

Can you pick out what does not the cause ducts to become blocked?

  • Incorrect latching on
  • Breast engorgement
  • Blebs
  • Excessive pressure to your breast
  • Using soap to wash your breast
  • Dehydration
  • Weaning your baby

At The Birthing Center of NY during, our Breastfeeding Class teaches how to avoid and treat clogged milk ducts, using a breast pump and hand expelling milk !

Weekly Tip: Which pets do pregnant women need to be careful cleaning up after?

Which pet is the pregnant women suppose to avoid? Birds, Fish, Turtle, Cats, Dogs or Rabbits?

Do you have a pet?  Did you know there are pets whose waste products pregnant women should not be cleaning up after?  If they have to clean up the waste,  they need to wear protective items such as gloves, mask and be sure to properly wash their hands.

Which pets are pregnant women supposed to avoid?   Is it birds, fish, turtles, cats, dogs or rabbits?

You are Breast feeding exclusively.

  • Day one of baby’s life, the baby has one wet diaper and one black tarry diaper which is good.
  • Day two your baby has 1-2 wet diapers and 1-2 tarry/ brown stool diapers – this is good.
  • Day three your baby should have 1-3 wet diapers and 1-3 browns stool diapers.

But wait , the baby had no wet diapers and one small brown stool diaper.  What should you do?
